New Year, New Website, New-sletter!

January 12, 2016

Happy 2016 everyone! Welcome to my blog on my brand spankin' new website. When I first started my business, Anne Was Here, the domain by the same name was already taken which is how I ended up with annewashereandthere.com. Wah wah. It's so looooong. Just recently my domain became available and I thought it was a great time for a refresh. Yay! My new site not only shows more of my art, but it also features many of the products I have designed in the last few years. It also integrates a newsletter sign up which has been long overdue for me. Please sign up for my newsletter here if you are interested in seeing monthly updates of my news and work.

2015 was an amazing year for my little business. I'm hoping that 2016 is even better for all of us! Cheers to the new year, may we be prosperous and have tons of fun along the way!

I share some visual process for this one in my stories today if you’re interested. Drawing something very familiar... 🤣
Here’s a Vday oldie but goodie from back in 2013/2014. Hope you are all having a great day and get to spend some time with someone you love. Romantically, familial-y or friendshipery. Love is love.
Happy Valentine’s Day!
Painting some tiny people.
It’s black history month and at first I thought about painting a portrait of a historic black figure that inspires me, but what I’m learning about white privilege is that even in our effort to facilitate change sometimes we end up making it about ourselves. The best people to tell the stories of black people and the black experience in this country are....black people! So I’m sharing some really lovey portraits done by a black illustrator I follow @tequitia_illustrated Enjoy!!
Two of my newest greeting cards for @studiooh ! These cards are hand painted then printed on lovely watercolor textured paper. There are foil accents, printed envelopes and even envelope stickers. You might recognize one of the cards (swipe left) from my @skillshare class in which I share how it was designed from start to finish!
Watch my stories to see a bit of my process for illustrating this dude!
New card for @bydesigndesign watch my stories to see the inside!
And the Golden Globe goes to.....my cat socks!!!! Jk, but my cat sock design is officially a movie star. Swipe for the proof. Anna Kendrick wears them and Blake Lively says they are cute, sooooo I’ve pretty much reached the pinnacle of my career don’t you think??!
One of the perks of living in California: fresh picked citrus from our backyard. We have lemons, mandarins and oranges!
Working on a client project I can’t share for now, but I thought my color mixing palette looked pretty enough to share! I love abstract art and would love to give it a go someday. Problem: I am a very detail oriented, perfectionist and I would need to learn to let go. I think that’s why my palette appeals to me, I wasn’t thinking of it as art and I just let it happen.
My baby boy wearing PJs with my design for @firstgive
A few months ago I got rid of most of our random mugs and started using a few of my own favorite designs. 😜
Ho ho ho! Here is the finished illustration. After a discussion with a few of you about liking our sketches better than the finished illustration, I tried to retain some of the gestural charm from the sketch for this one.
Sharing more of my process. Do you like to see that or no? Honest answers appreciated. I always do rough sketches of my designs first like this and then I use them as a template for the final design. Sometimes it changes along the way, sometimes not. I often leave out the details at this stage and add them later. Stay tuned for the final illustration!
Thank you for all your lovely suggestions! I ended up adding some pine needles to the background and a snowman ornament. I also created a coordinating pattern to go with my placement print. This artwork is now available for licensing! xoxo
Refined my color palette and added several more ornaments today. Check out my stories to see how far I got and make suggestions for ornaments I should add tomorrow!
Working on something for Christmas and thought I’d post some progress along the way.
